Forza Horizon 6 Will Be Set In Japan

Forza Horizon 6 has finally been announced after much anticipation. Every time a new Forza Horizon game is rumored to be in production fans across the world speculate that it will be set in Japan. It’s happened since Forza Horizon 2 and every installment since then with fans being a little disappointed when it’s eventually announced to be somewhere else. With Forza Horizon 6 there were credible rumors from insiders that the game would be set in Japan and revealed at Tokyo Game Show.

Well, it turned out they were right this time. Forza Horizon 6 will finally be set within Japan, with developer Playground Games stating that they were waiting until they had the technology to do the location justice. At Tokyo Game Show they revealed a small teaser that gives a nod to the history of the series before revealing the new location.

From an interview with the developers, they explained that their representation of Japan will spread from Tokyo City to rural and mountainous areas. There is talks that their representation of Tokyo will be the biggest city in a Forza Horizon game to date. They also mentioned that Forza Horizon 5 Hot Wheels DLC played a crucial role in helping them build the technology to be used for Tokyo’s elevated roads, which brings hopes that we will see the Shutoko Expressway in FH6.

With mention of rural and mountain areas, personally we are hoping this means we will finally see some good touge roads in a Forza Horizon game, something we haven’t seen since Forza Horizon 2. In order to capture the culture and atmosphere in an authentic way, Playground Games have hired a cultrual consultant named Kyoko Yamashita, a true gearhead from Japan.

Playground Games say they want to pay homage to the uniqueness of Japanese car culture and the diversity of interests from Kei cars to motorsports and drifting. While we’re expecting a heavy focus on the JDM car scene, the developers have said we can still expect the wide variety of cars we have seen in previous titles. Hopefully with the game being set in the home of tuner culture, we will see some better customization this time around.

Another highlight will be the return of actual changing seasons, with all seasons being represented within a visually changing world. There’s talk that the world will shift to match the season, from different sounds and acitivites to a changing landscape. This seems like a natural choice considering most would expect to see snowy winters and the absolutely iconic Sakura season.

Forza Horizon 6 is set to be released some time in 2026 with the game first launching on the Xbox Series X|S consoles and PC. The game will be available on Steam, Microsoft Store and available day on with Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. Additionally Playground Games is working with Turn 10 Studios to bring FH6 to PlayStation 5, however this won’t be released until after the initial launch on Xbox and PC.

The game page for Steam is now live for those who want to put it on their wishlist. Stay tuned for more updates in the future as we cover the development of the game here at Zero Culture.
