Assetto Corsa Rally Preview

Assetto Corsa Rally Announced

Assetto Corsa Rally was revealed in a surprise announcement at Sim Racing Expo and fans are already speculating if it’s going to be the new Richard Burns Rally. Immediately we could hear the voice of a thousand fans declaring this as the reason for EVO’s slow development, and we had the same concerns too at first but turns out that’s not the case.

It was revealed however that this isn’t in development by KUNOS Simulazioni, instead 505 Games and an entirely different development studio called Supernova Games Studio are working in technical partnership with KUNOS to develop the game. Utilizing the tech and physics engine from Assetto Corsa, this new team formed 5 years ago is independently building this dedicated rally sim.

Supernova plan to build an authentic and immersive rally sim that focuses on capturing the skill and essence of rally driving. In the preview shown for AC Rally the developers explained that the sim will feature an extended damage system allowing indiivdual parts of the cars to break in a visual and physics based way. Additionally there is a huge focus on simulating all of the elements of rally such as surface degradation, dynamic weather, and irregularities in road surface.

The game is being built in Unreal Engine 5, which is a bit concerning to us considering the amount of UE5 games that suffer from performance and optimization issues, but the hands-on previews of the game seemed to run well. In an upside all cars and even the rally stages have all been laser scanned for accuracy and the game does look beautiful. On the physics sides, hands-on impressions have shown that the game will also lean more towards the unforgiving nature of Richard Burns Rally than the more simcade and forgiving nature of Dirt 2.0 and EA WRC.

Assetto Corsa Rally is also coming sooner than expected with a planned launch into Steam Early Access on November 13th 2025. Initially there will be 4 stages with two gravel stages in Wales and 2 tarmac stages in Alsace totaling 33km of roads. There will also be 10 laser scanned rally cars including Group B, WRC, and Rally2 class cars with 5 game modes to choose from.

Initially it will be a singleplayer experience with leaderboards but there is plans to introduce more multiplayer systems later on in Early Access. Besides the traditional online leaderboard based tournament systems we’ve come to expect from rally games, apparently there will also be servers eventually that allow you to compete simultaneously with your friends – though it sounds like you won’t actually visibly see each other, just real time updates for sector timings etc.

The full release is planned to have over 120km of laser scanned rally stages, 5 international rallies, a total roster of 30 rally cars, with more updates to come post launch. There will be support for triple monitor setups day one of Early Access however VR support will come at a later stage as the developers aren’t happy with the current implementation, which isn’t surprising for a UE5 based sim.

The initial content list for Early Access is as follows:
