Assetto Corsa EVO Launches Steam Early Access

Assetto Corsa EVO is the highly anticipated driving simulator from Italian developer Kunos Simulazioni. The latest instalment in the simulator franchise has officially launched on Steam via the Early Access program giving early adopters a chance to test out the future of the franchise.

The initial launch offers a small slice of singleplayer content including 5 tracks, 20 cars, a driving academy for earning licenses, and modes like practice and quick race. There is also day one support for VR and triple screens which is an important inclusion for a modern day driving simulator.

Initial impressions have been mostly positive however a little mixed, mostly relating to issues found within the initial v0.1 alpha of the game. Screen performance appears relatively fine, however VR performance still requires a lot of optimization.

The AI appear to be a temporary basic implementation as they come with a few issues seen with more simple racing AI. Currently the AI behave strangely on some corners and in situations where they should avoid you or react to your presence on the track, they will drive straight through you sticking to the racing line.

The physics on the other hand while barebones in some aspects, is a significant improvement over previous Assetto Corsa titles already and has been met with a positive reception from the community in their initial impressions.

There have been some initial issues with the online requirement for the game resulting in some features like customization and the Driver’s Academy being locked. Kunos in response has patched some functionality to work offline.

All this is to say it’s early days for Assetto Corsa EVO and those wanting to dive into the latest instalment might want to take these into consideration before making a purchase. Kunos has also released their roadmap for the development of EVO detailing a brief outline of their plans for future content updates.

To celebrate the launch of Assetto Corsa EVO into Steam Early Access, Kunos are holding a 20% off sale for the next two weeks for those who buy the game now. Purchasing the Early Access version of the game will also give players all v1.0 content for free as part of their reduced purchase price.
